Senior Carly Wanna was announced as valedictorian of Stratford’s Class of 2017 during Monday’s assembly in the Henry Tift Fine Arts Auditorium.

Tarab Ajjan was named salutatorian. Both students will give speeches at Stratford’s graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 27 at the Macon City Auditorium.

The valedictorian is the senior with highest cumulative GPA, while the salutatorian is the senior with the second highest GPA.

“They are two outstanding students,” said Upper School Principal Mrs. Margaret Brogdon. “They were pretty much in a horse race for four years.”

Wanna was not present for the announcement. She was on a college visit to Yale. She also missed Tuesday night’s Golden Eagles Awards, when she was named runner-up in the Journalism category. Wanna is editor of The Gazebo and was crowned homecoming queen in October.

Tarab Ajjan was named Stratford’s STAR student for the year, which is awarded for the highest SAT score. In December, she was named state winner of the Keep Georgia Beautiful Award.

Brogdon also recognized the 35 seniors in the 71-member senior class who will be honor graduates.
