Band, Color Guard bring home the hardware

The Spirit of Stratford Band and Color Guard competed in the “Stateline Showdown” in Franklin, Ga., on Sept.  30. At the festival, they received trophies for Excellent Band, Excellent Drum Major, Superior Color Guard, and Excellent Percussion.

“I was really proud of our students. I thought that they did the best show they have done all season,” said Stratford Band Director Laura Voss. “It was as great as a show that I could hope for. I hope the kids feel rewarded for all their hard work because the judges gave them all superiors.”

In competition,  they received awards for Excellent Percussion, Superior Drum Major, Superior Color Guard, and Superior Band. Drum majors Riley Davis and Dylan Yurgalavage placed second in the Class A Division. The band also placed second, and the color guard placed third.

“I am exceptionally proud of how well we did considering the circumstances of having an entirely new format of competition,” said Emily Fackler, a senior and bass drum player. “The fact that our scores went up made me very happy.”
