The Chess Empowerment Association hosted a tournament Saturday, April 14, at the Mercer School of Medicine.

Stratford won first place out of seven competing schools, with freshman Haaris Ahmed winning first place individually. He scored a 4.5 out of a possible 5 points overall.

“This tournament didn’t have as many teams as others did so it was a bit easier to win,” he said.

The rest of the team also did well, with Shawn Shivdat and Ruzan Khoja only losing one game.

“I did OK, but could’ve done better,” freshman Alyan Khoja said.

Another chess tournament is planned for this summer.
