Hefner Takes Over As Board Chair

Mr. J. Eric Hefner has taken over as board chairman after serving on the board since 2005.

“The Board of Trustees’ job is to hire the headmaster and to make sure that the headmaster is applying the core values of the school, and I’m in charge of that board,” said Hefner, who graduated from Stratford in 1983.

As a parent of four children who have attended Stratford, including Jonathan — who graduated last year — Hefner said he is passionate about the school moving forward.

Hefner said the board’s major priority in the coming year is raising money for the new Cantrell Lower School Building.

“Our main goal is to see the Excellence Never Rests – Phase 2 Campaign come to fruition.  We are hoping to break ground on the new lower school by the end of the school year so that it will be ready to go in 2016,” Hefner said.

The board currently totals 21 members, 14 men and seven women, who work closely with Head of School Dr. Robert Veto.

“The board supports me in about 100 ways, allowing me to deal with the day to day activities,” Veto said.

Hefner said he is working closely with former board chair, Mr. Jeffery L. Avant, Class of 1984, and anticipates working very closely with chair-elect Ms. Mary Ellen Grossnickle.

“I love Stratford, and I am just honored to be chosen to serve the school in this position,” Hefner said.
