Ashlin Jackson was born on September 11, 2000.

A year later, on her first birthday, there was a terrorist attack on the United States.

“(My mother) saw it on TV, and my dad was at work, and she came and got me out of my crib and held me,’’ said Ashlin, a freshman at Stratford Academy.

Ashlin is in her second year at Stratford and plays on the softball team. She was born in the Atlanta area and lived there most of her life.

She is the only upper-school student at Stratford with a Sept. 11 birthday. She is often asked what it’s like to have her birthday on such a horrific day for America.

She has grown to expect the reactions from her peers when she tells them about it, but admits it does make her feel a bit uneasy.

“I’m 15, so I’m kind of used to it now.” she said.

She said she has respect for all the people who died and lost loved ones in this attack, but she still treats this day as a special one for her.

“I just react to it as any other day. Of course I have respect for the families.”
