Virginia Davis, mother of junior Meredith Fuchs, talks to Michelle Fleming’s AP English class about hiking the Appalachian Trail in the early 1990s. Students in Fleming’s classes have been reading Bill Bryson’s book “A Walk in the Woods,” which was recently made into a movie starring Robert Redford and Nick Nolte. Next week, they will get to hear a 89-year-old Gene Espy, of Macon, who was the second through-hiker to complete the Appalachian Trail in 1951.
