The Stratford Math Team won first place in the Mercer University Math Tournament, competing against 28 teams from across the state this past Saturday.
The team consisted of Shishir Bandi, Nischal Bandi, Om Sakhalkar, Pan Qi, Shijing Gong and Shawn Shivdat.
Tournament scores were determined by individual written tests, according to the math team co-advisor, Mr. Bobby Stecher. He said many of the questions involved probability, trigonometry, and calculus.
Students had 90 minutes to answer 45 multiple choice questions. There also was an intense round of 10 questions where each team received double the points if the questions were answered in the first minute and zero points after two minutes.
Nischal Bandi earned the second-highest ciphering score and tied for the fourth-highest written score. He received a plaque for the written exam and a book for the ciphering prize.
