Debating the Debates

By CARLY WANNA, Gazebo Editor

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton went head-to-head during Monday night’s debate.

Everyone remembers the questions of Trump’s tax evasion and mention of Clinton’s email.

But students in the “Social Media in the New Election” class focused on more subtle portions: the opening handshake, the candidates’ color choices, and the oh-so-many interruptions.

“In class, we decided we were going to do another debate and talk about how we thought each candidate did,” said sophomore Caroline Cole.

Each member of the fifth-period elective watched the debate and discussed in a live blog while they watched. They talked about the issues that were addressed, problems left untouched, and the funny moments bound to arise when Trump and Clinton interacted in their first presidential debate.

The class discussion focused on the intricate details of debate.

Trump drank more water.

Clinton was interrupted more.

Teacher Dewayne Lawson designed the first-year elective to coincide with the 2016 president election.
