Literary team brings home impressive five first-place awards in region competition

Stratford’s literary team took home five first-place finishes and three second-place awards Thursday at the region literary meet at First Presbyterian Day School.

Senior Walker Gibbons won the boys solo competition. Gibbons also was a member of the first-place boys quartet, along with freshman Matt Newberry and sophomores Austin Slocumb and Noah Fenimore.

The girls trio of Cameron Walsh, Grace Deedrick and Sarah Kate Sellers was named the winner of that category. All are seniors. Sellers also won second place in girls solo.

Meredith Fuchs, a senior, won first place “Humorous Oral Interpretation.” Junior Morgan Mathis was the first-place winner for “Dramatic Oral Interpretation.”

Senior Carly Wanna brought home second place for “Argumentative Essay.” Sophomore Rushabh Patel also was a second-place winner in the “International Extemporaneous Speaking” category.

The  “Oral Interpretation” duo of senior Thomas Thwaite and freshman Riley Davis was third.

All first- and second-place winners will advance to the state competition on Saturday, March 18 at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville.
