Stratford musicians take district band honors
District Honor Band consists about 20 counties and is the one of largest district state. In the fall, Middle School and Upper school students audition for district jazz band, Middle School Band, and Upper School Band.
In February, Stratford seniors Maggie Fuchs and Noah Fenimore were selected to the jazz band, Maggie plays the saxophone. Noah is on the percussion.
Hunter Tehrani and Gracie Jorgensen were named to the the Middle School district honor band. In the upper school, Nora Jorgensen was chosen for the ninth- and 10th-grade band,. Maggie Fuchs and Ben Jorgensen were selected for the 11th- and 12th-grade band.
Nora plays the clarinet. Hunter is a trombone player. And Benjamin and Gracie both play French horn.
“Those students should have excellent ability in reading music because they don’t get their music until the weekend up to the concert,’ band director Ms. Laura Voss said. “If the students score high enough in the competition, (they) have the opportunity to send on to the all state final audition.”
Gracie and Maggie both qualified to go to that final all state audition. Maggie has made the district band every year since the seventh grade.
“The most important thing for the competition is consistently practicing an hour a day,” Maggie said. “If I’m not practice that much day, then I’m not really fully prepared for it.”
