Why I Want to Go to the Sundance Film Festival
I like to create worlds upon Google Docs, but I have an unwavering respect for those who do so with cinema.
I have been an avid film-watcher since I was a child. While writing can create characters of depth, film gives a physical image to the depth.
Being in Stratford’s film club has allowed me to experience foreign film, aside from my experience with American film. And I’m gratified to have been given the opportunity to help lead film club’s endeavors for the 2019-2020 year.
A few months ago, my mother told me about her vacation to Utah for the Sundance Film Festival in 1998. She told me that the weeks of the festival consist of watching film daily and venturing through Park City. This sounded like my utopia.
Soon after, I rapidly began to research the festival, only to find out that I had missed this year’s festival.
So, I asked my mom if she would purchase tickets for my 17th birthday.
To my dismay, she replied,
“It’s expensive, start saving your money.”
Thank goodness for my babysitting gigs this summer, and a part-time job at my dad’s chiropractic office.
Hopefully, I’ll have raised enough money to buy tickets by the end of this year.
But until then, I’ll continue to buy Mike and Ike’s, sit back, and watch Sundance Films on Netflix.
