Students cast their votes for traditional, whimsical holiday songs
Jingle bells may rock.
But this Christmas you mighty be in for a shock by these Christmas song favorites.
When you ask most people what their favorite Christmas song is, you expect to get your typical “Silent Night,” or “Jingle Bell Rock” Senior, Sarah Pyles favorite Christmas song is “Mele Kalikimaka” by Jimmy Buffet, featured in “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”
“It’s pretty unique, as far as Christmas songs go,” Sarah said.
Hadley Cullars, a freshman,, is way more traditional. Her favorite Christmas song is “Jingle Bells.”
“(It) reminds me of Christmas memories with my family and fills me with Christmas spirit,” Hadley said.
Junior Claire Hurt is a drum major, so she knows about music. Her favorite Christmas song is, “Have Yourself a Merry Christmas” because it’s from a Christmas album sung by one of her favorite artists, Ethan Nestor.
In his final year of high school, Senior Shaw London’s likes the ever so harmonious, “Joy to the World” because he “sings it a lot in church.”
Fellow senior Evie Tharpe said she enjoys jamming out to the TikTok popular “All I Want for Christmas.”
“It gets me excited for the holidays,” she said.
Fellow senior Lauren McElrath agrees with Evie. But she prefers Michael Buble’s jazzy, “All I Want for Christmas.”
“I love Michael Buble that’s why I love it,” Lauren said.
Keondre Glover, a sophomore, cast his vote for “White Christmas,” the best-selling song of all time, with more than 100 million copies sold worldwide.
Harmony Nagle, Caroline Sutherland, and Harrison Tuck, all are fans of the funny, but morbid, “Grandma Got Run over by a Reindeer.”
“It shows some awesome mental imagery,” Harmony said.
Senior Hunter Hogan says his favorite Christmas Song is the childhood favorite, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”
“I really liked the claymation movie,” Hunter said.
