Sax player aims for state

Maggie Fuchs

Maggie Fuchs is up for a promising year playing the saxophone. The sophomore recently earned the opportunity to audition for Georgia’s All-State Band in December.

Getting a shot at state wasn’t easy. And Maggie’s reason for doing so well is an inspiring one.

Maggie had an uncle who was passionate about her saxophone playing ever since she started with the instrument.

He was supposed to have taken her to her first audition, but unfortunately, he passed away before he could.

His death motivated Maggie to try her hardest for the judges, like she knew he would have wanted.

Read about Maggie’s sister, Meredith Fuchs, and fellow senior Grace Deedrick play tuba in Stratford’s marching band.

She practiced and practiced until her big day arrived- and then she made the cut.

This isn’t Maggie’s only notable musical accomplishment. Last year, she received first chair in the District Jazz Band, second chair in District Symphonic Band, and another second chair in Region Symphonic Band.

In addition to the All-State audition, she earned first chair in District Jazz Band and a spot in a jazz clinic, where she will learn more about jazz music.
