Stratford’s Literary Team earned third at the state literary competition on Saturday in Milledgeville.

“The competition was pretty tough,” said Grace Deedrick, senior member of the second-place girls’ trio. “There were some great schools that we went up against at state, and we’re all proud of what we were able to do and where we placed.”

Eleven students drove to Georgia Military College to compete against 15 other private schools from across the state. Each competitor qualified for state by placing first or second in the region meet held on March 2 at First Presbyterian Day School.

The literary meet functions similarly to a track meet with placements first through fourth earning a certain amount of points toward the team total.

Carly Wanna placed first for argumentative essay.

Sarah Kate Sellers placed second for girls’ solo and joined Grace Deedrick, and Cameron Walsh to place second in girls trio.

The boys’ quartet of Noah Fenimore, Austin Slocumb, Matt Newberry and Walker Gibbons) placed fourth,.

Rushabh Patel placed third for extemporaneous speaking.
