Tennis teams head to Final Four
Girls team peaking in state tourney; Undefeated boys look to defend title
Last year, Stratford’s boys tennis team won the Georgia High School Association Class A state title. This year, they’re looking to do it again.
And the girls hope to go along for the ride.
Both the boys and the girls tennis teams have advanced to the Final Four.
On Monday, the girls beat Mount Pisgah for a spot in semifinals and a chance to win state away at Mount Pisgah on May 30. They are the No. 4 seed in their area and are led by seniors Evans McCook, Lori Kate Diponzio, Eliza Freedman, and junior Alyssa Ferland.
The girls recently beat the No. 1 seed in their area and are looking good for a shot at state with a record of 19-3.
On Tuesday, the undefeated boys punched their ticket in the Final Four with a convincing 5-0 victory over The Weber School. The team is led by Senior Mark Barrow, sophomores Daniel Cohen and Samuel Barrow, and freshmen Will Fackler and Thomas Brewer.
A key factor to the unbeaten season is “keeping an optimistic and determined view on our goal of getting to state,” said freshman Will Fackler.
