Soaring Eagles seek third straight title
The Stratford boys tennis team will be competing for its third straight Class A state championship Saturday in Rome. If the Eagles prevail over The Paideia School for the second straight time in the finals, it will be their fourth title in five years.
The Eagles are 20-0 in each of their last three seasons.
“We focus on that next match coming up and for us this time it’s Saturday,” said Coach Jaime Kaplan, who recorded her 400th career victory in Tuesday’s semifinal victory over the Wesleyan School.
The team is lead by junior Samuel Barrow at No. 1 singles. Thomas Brewer is No. 2, and Daniel Cohen No. 3. The doubles teams are Will Fackler and Patrick Delves, and Max Payne and Carter Eddlemon.
This year’s team has had the same success as previous years, but this time with a young line-up. The Eagles have three juniors, two sophomores and two freshmen.
Coach Jaime said the message to her team this week has been to work hard, get plenty of rest, eat right, hydrate and “just being ready for that match Saturday.”
The boys will play at 1:30 at Berry College at the Rome Tennis Center.
