Both Stratford boys and girls varsity golf will be competing in the GHSA state golf tournament on Monday, May 11 in Augusta Georgia.

For the girls team, they have already set a record-breaking season, and they will be looking to add to their list of accomplishments.

Freshmen Josie Coleman and Ashlin Jackson are the first girls in Stratford history to qualify as a team for a state golf tournament.

“Everyone pairs you with golf,” Coleman explained. “It would be really cool if we could pull off a win to show people, especially as freshmen.”

After the region tournament, the girls kept their first-place spot by posting a tournament-low score of 88 from Coleman.

After the boys qualification rounds, they will also be looking to bring home a state trophy on Monday night.

Brannen Suggs, Michael Hicks, Jack Evans, John McMaster, Will Chambless, McKinley Thompson, Ashlin Jackson, and Josie Coleman will be competing in the tournament.

The teams are among the 16 to qualify throughout the state.

“We have got a good group going this year,” said Coach Miles Pippin. “I think they’ll all do pretty well.”
