Falling in love with fall

Autumn is sophomore Cate Eddlemon’s favorite time of year

When the leaves turn orange and yellow, and the weather begins to cool off, you know fall is approaching. Fall is my favorite season for many reasons.

Fall means it’s football season. Football is one of my favorite sports to watch. This is probably because it is one of the only sports that I actually understand. I get to watch Stratford play on Fridays and Alabama on Saturdays.

Fall also brings cheer season. I love cheering on Thursdays for the junior varsity team and at pep rallies on Friday.

With fall also comes cooler weather. … Well, usually.

For the first weeks of fall, Macon still felt like the middle of summer. The mornings often start out cold. Last week’s football game against Twiggs County was the first time that it has felt like the cool fall weather that I love.

I like the weather in the fall the most because the winter is way too cold. Spring has too much pollen, and the summer is too hot. Fall is the perfect mix of not too hot and not too cold. When it does finally cool down, I am excited to wear leggings, sweaters, and comfy sweatshirts all the time.

One of my favorite parts of fall weather is all the different colors of the leaves. I love it when the orange, red and yellow leaves begin to fall to the ground.

Two of my favorite holidays take place during the fall. Halloween is always fun because one of my favorite things to do is go to a pumpkin patch and pick out a pumpkin to carve. I also love to dress up with my friends. I am a big candy fan which makes Halloween the perfect holiday for me.

Although this is an unpopular opinion, I absolutely love candy corn. As soon as fall begins, the first thing I do is buy a bag of candy corn and I eat them until Christmas.

As much as I love Halloween, Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday. As soon as Halloween is over, I decorate our house for Thanksgiving. I can finally pull out all the Thanksgiving candles.

I love all Thanksgiving food from the turkey and sweet potatoes to the array of different pies. Not only do I get a delicious meal out of this holiday, but we also get a week off from school.

During Thanksgiving break I get to see a lot of family I only see once a year. And I know after Thanksgiving break is over, I only have about three weeks until winter break.
