Charlie Giles runs the bases for the Eagles

The Stratford Eagles opened the season with a 5-0 victory at home on Wednesday.

Senior Clifton Olmstead hit a home run and a double, and threw five shutout innings to pick up the win. Sammy Martin got the save.

The Eagles are returning five starters, but there are opportunities for younger players to step up.

Coach Tyler Brown plans on giving several underclassmen varsity playing time. He said freshman Waldon Davis and sophomore Hall Buice will likely get some time on the field and possibly others.

The team’s main goal for the season is to winthe region championship.

 “I think we have the pitching and definitely the bats that we can do that,” Coach Brown said. “We just kind of  got to come together as a team and see how far we can go.”
